Note

Placide Gaudet was a genealogist revered by all Acadians, and respected by all Canadian historians. He was only 14 years old when he was a member of the first graduation class at St. Joseph's. He took his M.A. there in 1873. He became a printe

r in the shop of "Le Moniteur Acadien, then editor of the Bathurst "Courrier." He attended normal school in Fredericton and, upon completion of his studies, taught at Shédiac, Memramcook, Tracadie and elsewhere. His interest in social history an

d genealogy earned him an appointment to a post in the Canadian archives department at Ottawa. It was a special position in which he became Acadian archivist and he remained in the post for 25 years. Archivist, genealogist and historian, Placid

e Gaudet devoted his entire adult life to researching and copying Acadian documents. His collection is priceless, and it goes without saying that it has no parallel in Canada. (Source : http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi'op=GET&db=gl
