Emery was a Veteran of the Second World War.

He served five years overseas, serving in Scotland, England, Sicily, Italy, Holland, France, and Germany.

He was a memeber of the West Nova Scotia Regiment and continued to serve as a reservist after the war.

He was a life member of the Memory Club in the West Nova Scotia Regiment.

Emery was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville.

There he served terms as President, Past President and other offices.

He also received the Palm Leaf award.

He worked for the Willett Fruit Company and later a car salesman until his retirement.
